Learn how to choose the right AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oil for your current vehicle application
After returning home after the 50th AMSOIL convention we sat down to help our customers determine which AMSOIL motor oil is rights for their personal and fleet vehicles. We would think this would an easy choice, but it has recently gotten a little more complicated with the introduction of 2 new AMSOIL passenger car / truck synthetic motor oils.
Recently announced a new High Mileage Synthetic Motor oil as well as a Hybrid car focused motor oil and an increased mileage recommendation for the Extended Life Motor Oil (XL) there are so many choices what does a customer do? We recently reviewed an article in the September 2023 AMSOIL Dealer Magazine entitled “What’s the Right Motor Oil for You?”
As new technology is developed, AMSOIL has followed suit by introducing products that meet and exceed manufactures recommendations.
AMSOIL OE (Original Equipment) Synthetic Motor Oil
OE was developed to target the “Do it for me” (DIFM) market namely the quick lube and oil change service market. This leading synthetic motor oil is designed to compete in price and performance with “off the shelf” synthetics found at most quick lube centers. OE is a full synthetic motor oil designed to be used in passenger cars and trucks for customers that typically follow the manufactures oil change recommendations. OE is an excellent product for those that have warranty concerns about extending oil change intervals.
AMSOIL Hybrid Synthetic Motor Oil
New launched (July 2023) is the AMSOIL Hybrid Synthetic Motor Oil. AMSOIL realized that hybrid cars that have both a batter and an internal combustion engine had unique requirements. Typical hybrid cars and trucks use an electric motor to propel the vehicle, the combustion engine will cycle on and off as needed to either increase the power or to charge the battery as needed. This means many hybrid vehicles engines do not get up to full operating temperature. Engines that don’t get to operating temperature have increased moisture in the crankcase as well as potentially higher wear due to cooler oil not circulating as well as a fully warmed up engines. Also many of the additives that are in motor oil must be warmed/heated to begin to work. Developing a specific hybrid motor oil to combat these issues is key. There are now more hybrid vehicles on the road than ever before. Protect your hybrid with the proper engine oil. Guaranteed Protection For 15,000 Miles/1-Year
AMSOIL Synthetic High Mileage Motor Oil
Introduced in (July 2023) AMSOIL Synthetic High Mileage Motor Oil is designed specifically for the unique demands of high-mileage engines, helping extend the life of vehicles with over 75,000 miles (120,000 km) on the odometer. It cleans and protects engines with boosted detergency and an additive package that fights oil breakdown and leaks. Guaranteed Protection For 12,000 Miles/1-Year
AMSOIL Extended Life synthetic Motor Oil
AMSOIL XL Synthetic Motor Oil is a 100% synthetic engine oil designed for high mileage drivers in mind. Many people commute or use their vehicles for travel or deliveries on a daily basis. Those that drive thousands of miles per week often change oil weekly. AMSOIL XL Extended Life synthetic motor oil is designed for ultimate protection up to 20,000 miles or one year. This can help with significant yearly savings on oil changes. Many synthetic oil change prices are over $100 per change. Extending oil changes can significantly reduce downtime as well as save money over the life of your vehicle while still maintaining optimal protection and performance.
AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil
AMSOIL Signature Series 100% Synthetic Motor oil is the best of the best that money can buy. Signature Series offers the best in performance, the best in protection and the longest recommended oil drain interval on the market today. Signature Series offers 75 percent more engine protection against horsepower loss and wear as well as 50% more cleaning power vs. AMSOIL OE Motor Oil. Signature Series is the best choice for anyone who would like to preserve their engines for peak performance.
Motor oil consists of base oil either refined or synthetic, plus additives and viscosity index improvers. The days of having one motor oil for all types of engines are long gone. Many types of engines have differing requirements. Each quart made must equal 32 ounces of finished product. Within the development and manufacturing of a motor oil various amounts of base oils, additives and viscosity index improves are used in various amounts to achieve the desired performance characteristics. There are also varying degrees of performance for base oils, additives and index improvers. Using a higher quality or higher performance product can allow a manufacture to use other necessary ingredients to achieve a desired outcome. This is why on the chart below you can see the various performance categories have higher or lower limits of performance. In the development and designing of an engine oil manufactures must take all the parameters into consideration. As you can see below, the higher performance products like Signature Series and XL will have overlaps that the other products do not. While we believe in using the best lubricants possible, for many cost may be a consideration. Therefore AMSOIL has developed an entire line of synthetic engine oils to cover many of todays cars and trucks on the road.
We would love to help you determine which AMSOIL product is best for your car or truck. AMSOIL also offers engine oils for European manufactured engines as well as diesel engine oils.
Frequently Asked Questions about AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils
Q: Why do I need AMSOIL High-Mileage Motor Oil?
A: For engines exceeding 75,000 miles (120,000 km) with unknown maintenance history or known usage of lower-quality oil, AMSOIL High-Mileage Motor Oil provides an added boost of detergents to clean sludge and deposits. It also features a robust viscosity that provides additional wear protection, even after some wear has already occurred. Added seal conditioners extend the life of seals and help protect against drying, cracking and leaking.
Q: When should I use AMSOIL High Mileage Motor Oil?
A: A good rule of thumb is to use AMSOIL High-Mileage Motor Oil at or around the time your vehicle has accumulated 75,000 miles (120,000 km). While 75,000 is not an extreme number of miles today, it is an ideal time to prepare your engine for the road ahead with an added boost of protection.
Q: Do I need to use AMSOIL High-Mileage Motor Oil if I’ve already been using AMSOIL motor oil?
A: No. If you’ve been consistently using AMSOIL motor oil, your engine is already operating at peak performance and has been protected against wear. However, if you’ve been using AMSOIL OE and are looking for an upgrade in overall engine protection as it ages, AMSOIL High-Mileage Motor Oil is an excellent choice.
Q: Aren’t AMSOIL motor oils recommended for vehicles regardless of mileage?
A: Correct, all AMSOIL motor oils offer outstanding performance and protection regardless of vehicle mileage. However, for those seeking targeted benefits at an affordable price, AMSOIL
High-Mileage Motor Oil is the best choice for high-mileage applications. For those seeking the ultimate performance and protection regardless of miles, we still recommend Signature Series Motor Oil.
Q: Is AMSOIL High-Mileage Motor Oil the best AMSOIL product to use in high mileage vehicles?
A: AMSOIL offers two excellent products that provide boosted benefits for high-mileage applications. AMSOIL High-Mileage Motor Oil focuses on the key challenges that high-mileage
vehicles face at a lower price point. AMSOIL Signature Series Motor Oil does everything High-Mileage Motor Oil does, while providing industry-leading performance and protection across the board. Signature Series is the best choice regardless of vehicle mileage.
Q: Why do I need Hybrid Motor Oil?
A:Hybrid engines operate under a different set of parameters and conditions that typically result in additional fuel and water contamination, leading to corrosion. AMSOIL Hybrid Motor Oil is uniquely formulated to address these specific challenges.
Q: When should I use Hybrid Motor Oil?
A: AMSOIL Hybrid Motor Oil is an excellent choice for any hybrid electric (HEV) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), regardless of miles or age of the vehicle. What if I’ve been using another AMSOIL motor oil in my hybrid vehicle? If you’ve already been using AMSOIL motor oil, your engine has received excellent protection. All AMSOIL motor oils of the appropriate viscosity are compatible with hybrid technologies, but AMSOIL Hybrid Motor Oil is specially tailored to focus on the unique challenges presented by hybrid vehicles at an
affordable price. If you’ve been using AMSOIL OE and are looking for an upgrade in hybrid-engine protection, AMSOIL Hybrid Motor Oil is an excellent choice.
Q: On a higher mileage vehicle say over 150,000 miles. Would it be best for a customer to use the signature series or the high mileage oil?
A: On higher mileage vehicles I recommend doing an engine flush prior to changing over to AMSOIL, secondly I recommend using one of the lesser expensive products as an initial oil change like the OE or the new Higher Mileage oil. I recommend doing an engine flush, then a shorter oil change interval of say 2-3,000 miles. Be sure to check for oil usage and leaks often. If everything is good, then move them up to XL or signature series. If a customer is already on one of the top tier oils, I wouldn’t have them downgrade unless the vehicle is using an excessive amount of oil between changes.

New to AMSOIL synthetic motor oil? Don’t forget to order a bottle of AMSOIL Engine and Transmission Flush to use prior to changing over to our products. AMSOIL Engine and Transmission Flush is recommended for diesel and gasoline engines, and automatic transmissions. Do not use it in differentials.
HI I’m driving Honda vezel hybrid 2917. Currently I’m using Amsoil signature series 0w-20. Now is it necessary for me to change to Amsoil Hybrid 0w-20 for next servicing? which EO is more suitable for me. Tia
As you can see in the chart on this post. The Signature Series covers all of the other products in the line. So if you are already using Signature series, there is no need to move down to the hybrid oil. The hybrid oil was mainly designed for auto shops that carry AMSOIL so they don’t have to explain why to use it. Secondly most installers/shops don’t carry the Signature series, they sell the OE or the XL. So adding to that line would give a broader product selection. Signature Series is the best of the best.
sorry for the delay in response. I have not gotten notifications. I would switch to the new Hybrid oil on your next change. It is specifically design for the different characteristics of hybrid engine technology.
