Other Factors that affect fuel economy
- Tire pressure – keep tires inflated to the recommended pressures on the sidewall to maintain least rolling resistance. Remember to check pressures on cold tires.
- Excess weight – removing excess weight from your vehicle will help increase fuel economy especially if you drive in stop and go traffic.
- Speeding – High road speeds can reduce fuel economy drastically. Drive slower to increase fuel economy
- Fuel quality – Using fresh and quality fuels will help maintain fuel economy.
- Excessive idling – letting your car idle for long periods wastes gas.
- Coasting as much as possible – When you see a red light ahead, coasting helps save fuel….Instead of braking hard (which also reduces brake pad life) can help you save fuel especially if you don’t have to come to a complete stop.
- Avoid jackrabbit starts – You know those people, they take off from a stoplight like doing a drag race…Doing that uses more fuel than if you gently accelerate from a stop.
